Catto Mail Acceptable Use Policy
Version 2026-10 · 11 October 2026
This policy sets the rules for every client that sends email through Catto Mail (cattomail.com), a service run by the operator of Catto Mail. By using the service you agree to follow it.
1. Permission to send
- Send only to people who asked to hear from you. That means:
- they signed up, or gave you their address in a way that made clear they would get your mail;
- you can show when and how each person gave permission, if asked.
- Do not use addresses that were bought, rented, swapped, scraped from websites or harvested in any other way.
- Do not send to old lists that have not been mailed for more than 12 months without first asking the people on them to confirm.
- A valid address is not permission. The address validation of Catto Mail only checks that an address can receive mail.
2. What you may not send
- You may not use Catto Mail to send:
- spam or any unsolicited bulk or commercial email;
- phishing, fake login pages, or mail that pretends to come from someone else;
- malware, or links to malware;
- scams, pyramid or get-rich-quick schemes, or fake invoices;
- anything illegal in South Africa or in the recipient's country;
- hate speech, threats, harassment, or content that promotes violence;
- sexually explicit material;
- anything that infringes someone else's copyright, trade mark or privacy.
- Do not try to hide what you are sending, or to get round the checks, limits or suppressions of Catto Mail.
3. Sending properly
- Send only from domains you own or control, and verify each one in Catto Mail before sending.
- Every message must say clearly who it is from, and its subject line must not mislead.
- Every bulk or marketing message must have a working unsubscribe link.
- Act on every unsubscribe promptly, and never mail that person again from that list.
- Catto Mail adds one-click unsubscribe headers. You must still honour them.
- Keep your API keys and webhook secrets private. You are responsible for all mail sent with your keys. If a key leaks, revoke it at once.
4. Limits and enforcement
- Keep your lists clean. Your mail is expected to stay below these rates:
| Measure | Warning | Action likely |
|---|---|---|
| Hard bounces | 2% | 5% |
| Spam complaints | 0.1% | 0.3% |
- Each account has sending limits. Ask if you need them raised.
- Catto Mail suppresses addresses that hard bounce, complain or ask for no mail at all. Do not try to send to them again.
- If you break this policy, or your mail harms the service's reputation, the operator of Catto Mail may, with or without notice:
- slow down your sending;
- pause or suspend your account;
- close your account.
- Where possible you will be told why, and given a chance to fix the problem.
5. Data, law, changes and contact
- You are responsible for the personal information of the people you mail, including obeying the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA). That information is handled by the operator of Catto Mail only to deliver your mail and report on it.
- You must also obey the direct-marketing rules of POPIA section 69, the Electronic Communications and Transactions Act and the Consumer Protection Act, and the laws of every country you send to.
- This policy is governed by the law of South Africa.
- This policy may change. A new version gets a new version number, and you may be asked to accept it before you send again.
- Report abuse, and send complaints about mail sent through Catto Mail, to abuse@cattomail.com.
